Understanding Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a complex eye disease that can gradually lead to vision loss if left untreated. Glaucoma can damage the optic nerve, leading to irreversible changes in vision. Early detection and proactive management are crucial for preserving sight and slowing the progression of this disease.

High eye pressure can be a cause of glaucoma, and our team has the experience and technology needed to detect, manage, and treat glaucoma.

Using Our Technology for Personalized Treatment

We use all of the diagnostic and treatment technology at our disposal to identify and manage glaucoma. This includes comprehensive eye exams and precise monitoring of intraocular pressure, optic nerve imaging, and visual field testing.

These diagnostics allow us to identify subtle changes over time, guiding our approach to protect your vision.

Our practice also offers selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), an effective, in-office procedure that helps to lower eye pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma.

Exploring Selective Trabeculoplasty (SLT)

Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is an in-office procedure designed to lower intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma.

At Valley Eye Physicians & Surgeons, we offer SLT as a safe and effective treatment option for managing glaucoma, helping to protect your vision without the daily burden of eye drops.

SLT uses a low-energy laser to target specific cells in the eye’s drainage system, improving fluid outflow and reducing eye pressure. This helps selectively treat the trabecular meshwork, which is responsible for draining fluid from the eye.

By enhancing this natural drainage process, SLT helps lower intraocular pressure and can effectively manage glaucoma.

SLT is a noninvasive procedure that can typically be performed in less than 30 minutes in our office. Afterward, you can return to your daily activities shortly.

SLT can also reduce your dependency on eye drops, simplifying your treatment process.

During the SLT procedure, you will be comfortably seated, and a special lens will be placed on your eye to help focus the laser. You may feel a brief sensation of warmth. After the treatment, our team will monitor you for a short period before you go home.

We will also provide comprehensive follow-up care to monitor your eye pressure and overall eye health.
